![]() Mocap techniques allow the identification of bone or muscle abnormalities in the human body, facilitating the diagnosis of diseases or disabilities and their subsequent treatment. Motion capture is not only restricted to the field of entertainment, it also has very important uses in the field of health. This makes it possible for cartoons and video games to be as realistic as possible. Currently, the techniques are used to record the movement of actors and replicate it in 3D models generated digitally. Motion capture (Mo-cap) refers to a group of technologies that records the movements of people and objects, and transfers the corresponding data to another application. Possibly the best known application of motion capture techniques is animation in the entertainment industry. Motion capture applicationsĪs has been seen so far, motion capture applications are many and varied. Released in 1989, it is considered the first video game to apply motion capture techniques, 70 years later and with very different purposes from those pursued by Max Fleischer. As a curiosity and as an example of this, we find the video game Prince of Persia. However, the development of this type of techniques was not immediate, but rather matured over time. Some sources place it in the year 1872, when the British photographer Eadweard Muybridge captured the movement of a horse using various cameras followed sequentially.Īs we will see in the next point, motion capture techniques have been used by a large number of different disciplines. When was motion capture invented?Ĭurrently, there is no unanimous consensus on the origin of motion capture. In this way, motion capture aims to produce 3D models that reflect the real movement of moving subjects. Motion capture is the process of capturing the movement of people, animals or objects, transferring it to a 2D or 3D model and animating it with the set of recorded movements. ![]() What is motion capture?įirst, let’s specify what we mean when we talk about mocap. In this article we analyze what motion capture is and how it works, reviewing its history and evolution. ![]() With the newer rendition of the Follower, the whole process has been more streamlined and simplified.Motion capture, also known by “mocap”, “motion capture” or “motion tracking”, is responsible for a large number of advances in different fields such as medicine, industry of entertainment or, as is the case with the motion capture software developed by STT Systems, to improve the performance of professional athletes. With Follower tracking camera system, people and objects was never as this easy, as it is all done within one system. Xsens suit in certain situations had a problem picking up the position of the suit in the virtual set, but with the Follower technology that issue has been successfully dealt with, pinpointing the precise location of the character in the virtual world no matter what the person is doing on the actual set. Several motion-capture technologies are described in terms of this generic. To be more specific, we used our stYpe Follower Tracking System to help with positioning objects and/or people within 3D virtual space. The following section introduces a practical model of motion capture technology. To overcome its limitations, we used our stYpe technology to smoothen out the workflow and it the end clients' experience with the motion capture technology. ![]() StYpe has been involved in many projects in the course of the last decade which included motion capture technology and motion capture suits, particularly the Xsens motion capture suit. The technology behind motion capture suits has advanced significantly in recent years, with newer suits using more advanced sensors and wireless communication to provide even more accurate and responsive motion tracking Motion capture technology, especially motion capture suits are commonly used in the entertainment industry, particularly for creating realistic and lifelike animations of characters in movies, TV shows, and video games. It can capture the precise motion of people engaging in just about any action, from tossing a ball to jumping up high. ![]() Motion capture (or mo-cap) is the digital recording of movement. But its been used in video games for decades. As an industry veteran in VR production, stYpe pushes boundaries in various industry fields, including motion capture technology. Motion capture technology is only getting more impressive and realistic these days. ![]()
